Rugby returns to Fleetway Sports Ground this week as the club continues its preseason campaign. Following a club game against Aylesford the teams now have separate fixtures with the 2nd XV taking on the lads from next door Gravesend RFC.

Following a hugely successful recruitment campaign in the form of the now rather famous #tryoldgs video this week sees the debut of 6 brand new players with plenty more waiting in the wings to get a game.

A big pack is always key especially when playing Gravesend and captain Russell Allen has put together a set of forwards with countless years of experience but with size to spare! Ross Coleman makes his 2nd team return after spending much of last season with the 1st XV alongside Ben Randall and Old G’s returner Mike “Elvis” Murray. To power a front row like this the engine room has to be filled and this week the bash brothers, Tom Hammerton and Martin Povey, get the nod to start. Jordan Lynch, also returning from 1st XV action takes up the flanks alongside Harry Ballantyne with Andy Day bringing it all together at number 8.

Second team stalwart Andy Hinde will be bossing the pack and running the plays from scrum half with Liam Cole outside him at 10.Barring Tyler Poulson at Full back the rest of the back line are all Old G’s debutants. Bret “Hovis” Hill and Spencer Lee take up the centre shirts with Zac Mitchell and Dan Bishop on the wings.

The bench is a great mix of experience and debuts featuring the other half of the twin towers Derek Brown, Mick Caveney, Luke “your boy” Mills, Darrel Conlan as well as Dan McDonald and Nick “Pumba” Hawes.
