Away from home against the unbeaten league leaders never sounds like the easiest task. But Old Gs produced the performance on Saturday to end Darts winning streak - as the boys in blue came home with a 31-24 bonus point victory.
Early tries from debutant Cam Lyall and flanker come winger Nick Hawes saw Old Gs to a 12 point lead. And despite Darts hitting back with a score out wide, a solo effort from Phil Costley extended the lead to 19-5. Darts showed why they top the table with an impressive score from their fly half to reduce the deficit to 19-12 at half time.
Knowing that the pressure would come from the home side, Old Gs came firing out the blocks in the second half, with scores from Matt Holdstock and a second for Costley taking the lead out to 31-12 - with some fine Old Gs interplay between backs and forwards.
Darts continued to fight in the last 10 minutes, crossing for 2 further scores of their own, one from the final play of the game to secure themselves 2 bonus points. But Old Gs can be hugely proud of an impressive performance that sets the standard for the rest of the season.
