The 2’s return this week as one part of a club double header away day at Gillingham Anchorians. After last weeks disappointment of not being able to get an opposition after Sheppey pulled out late in the week everyone is fired up and ready to go, especially after the show of might that Gillingham displayed in this fixture last season!
Captain Russ had his work cut out somewhat with a number of minor injuries and some key unavailability’s. Nevertheless a strong team has once again come together.
The front row family of Stu and Ross Coleman are joined by Ben Randall who takes on the number 2 shirt for the first time this season. The engine room is made up of one half of the Old G’s bash brothers in Tom Hammerton and Sam Snell who has finally stopped sulking and has agreed to play a game! The back 3 are once again made up of Jordan Lynch, Hindey and Darrell who have worked well so far this season.
In an exciting move the 9 shirt has been claimed by the old boys ginger ninja Sam Fenton who came back last season to play for the victorious Vets team after some years out starting his family, Sam brings to the table years of playing experience, a good rugby brain and often comes with a great team of supporters as well. Hoping that the service is good all afternoon at Fly Half steps in Richard Parish and he will have the luxury of a great pair of centres outside him in Will and Langley who everyone hopes will continue their blossoming bromance in the midfield.
The back 3 will consist of Joe W, Russ and Liam Cole with Jamie Edwards a possibility depending on how his recovery from a knock picked up 2 weeks ago has gone.
Old G’s are trying the concept of finishers by the looks of the bench this week which contains Ayub who hits harder than a freight train, Ben Fenton – the brother of Sam and himself a starring member of the Vets last season on the flanks, Jim Henshall who has travelled from Baisingstoke to play the fixture and Nick Bratton meaning that the 2nd row will always have great power pushing the scrum forward!
With both 1st and 2nd team playing away at the same venue the rent-a-mob will hopefully be out in force and cheer the boys in blue through what promises to be two tough games.
Meet time is 12:30 or 1:30 if going direct. Please let Russ know if you intend to meet at Gillingham.
