Match Preview

This week marks the start of the league campaign for the 1st XV but there is also a game for the Super 2’s. They look to recover from their disappointing outing last week against Gravesend 4’s and show that they are in for a positive season against Ashford 3’s.
Captain Russell “Smithy” Allen has had a struggle for certain positions but a few returning faces help cover those still not back and unavailable. These included Martin “The Gazelle” Langley who is out with an injury picked up in last weeks game. Tyler Poulson, Ben Randall and Martin Povey are all missing with Poveys new snuggle bunny in the 2nd row Tom Hammerton still trying to get the time off work.

The starting line up will be announced last minute but a few key faces and names are worth mentioning…

Chris “Bertie” Bassett returns after a long rest due to injury, Nick “Gump” Stevens comes back in what the G’s will be hoping is a more regular appearance after playing well for the Vets last season. Steve “Jazzy” Jarrett and Sam Snell return to action as well for the first time this season along with Jamie “Blazin’ Squad” Edwards has decided he has perfected his somewhat awful face fungus and will be making an appearance again.

After seeing his 1st choice hooker side-lined with a long term injury and his 2nd choice still in hiding after missing last weeks game due to a crippling fear of Zebras Captain Russ will most likely pull on the hooker shirt again and try to have another crack at this new position.
The 2’s are pleased to announce that fan favourite Dave “Frodo” Owen has agreed to take up the roles of, Hydration Officer, Belligerent Bystander & Inspirational Trash-talker or HOBBIT for short.
Meet time is 13:30 for a 15:00 kick off, fines are in place this week.

The 2’s want to wish the 1st XV best of luck in their league opener and look forward to sinking a few in the bar during the 3rd half. See you all down there.
