Match Preview

The time has finally come, as we have seen the 1s get off to a flying start with them smashing their first two preseason games, it is now the time for the super 2s to get their campaign under way and hopefully join the party.

Newly appointed captain, Russell Allen, will have his work cut out in his first game at the helm against a Gravesend 4’s team that will be more fired up than usual after the old boys performance against Gravesend 2’s on Wednesday night! (See that match report for more details).

A new season also brings with it some new faces who will be making their first run out in blue and blue on Saturday but they are in good company as Russell mixes experience with youth in a strong looking line up.

Stuart and Ross Coleman form an unholy bond in the front row with Ryan D in at hook while the team await Frodo to receive the all clear from his doctors to play. The old boys engine room is a spectacle to behold with power houses Tom Hammerton and Martin Povey, both will be looking to get the ball in open play and hit a few runs so this could be quite the partnership. The back 3 sees Jordan Lynch join the partnership of Andy Hinde and Darrell Conlan.

Ben Randall is in at 9 with Liam Cole hoping that the passes are straight and true for good service at 10. A new centre partnership on Will McArthur and Martin Langley, those of you who followed the 2’s last season will remember Langley for his Gazelle like runs and super tries, fingers crossed for more of the same! Captain Russell will oversee the game from the wing with Keiran Coyle on the other side and Tyler Poulson in at full back before he returns to Uni in a few weeks.

A couple of new faces sit on the bench in the form of Liam and Joe, we wish all debutants good luck and we will see you all in the bar afterwards for the third half of the game!

The 2’s kick off at 3 which is just after the 1st XV game finishes. Make sure you stick around to watch both games.
