Old Gs fell to a 19-38 home defeat to Beckenham on Saturday. Despite Becks deserving their win Old Gs battled hard with 14 men for over an hour following a red card for Ash Bourne.
Old Gs started well and were held up twice over the line as they controlled the opening part of the game.
The Beckenham backline were the danger and their centre dived over to open up a lead. A second soon followed, as deft offloads created space for them to finish out wide.
With Old Gs now down to 14, after the unfortunate Bourne saw red, a third try followed before half time. The home side was 0-19 down at the break.
Old Gs came flying out the gate in the second half - with forward dominance notably in the scrum.
Skipper Chris Daniels soon picked from the base and dived over. A second Old Gs try followed as they dismantled the Beckenham scrum and Daniels again dived over.
The momentum was with OldGs but chances went begging as fatigue set in - and Beckenham broke away to extend their lead.
An unfortunate Old Gs knock on gifted them another as the Becks winger strode away for 12-31.
Old Gs wouldn’t lie down and accept their fate. Matt Johnson broke through the defence and Andy Morris was on hand to take a short pass to crash over 19-31.
Being one man down, OldGs tiredness was starting to tell and despite valiant work rate - a final Beckenham tap and go saw their winger finish out wide to complete his hatrick in the final play of the game 19-38.
