Old Gs turn on the style to defeat Footscray

Old Gs put in a wonderful home performance on Saturday as they defeated Footscray 101-7 in a Kent Vase clash.

From the off they were on the front foot, forwards and backs combining to great effect - creating space out wide for the impressive James Hood, who grabbed himself 5 first half tries.

Other scores from Mike Walsh, Chris Daniels, Phil Costley, Matt Johnson x2, Chris Johnson, and Conor Fenlon capped a great first half display - with Old Gs leading 70-0 at the break.

The second half was less one way traffic. All credit to Footscray on how they battled to keep themselves in the contest - crossing for their sole try soon after half time.

Old Gs kept piling forward though and further scores from Mike Hodge x2, Reis Buckland, Conor Fenlon and Ryan Lockyer sealed the deal - as Old Gs capped a fine display with some free flowing rugby.

Man of the match went to James Hood, but in truth this could have gone to multiple others, with all 18 squad members making their contribution to a cracking afternoon of rugby.

Note should be given to Charlie Knight and Andy McLean who both impressed in their first team debuts - giving head coach Dan Buckland a major selection headache moving forward - as the squad depth continues to develop.

This result gives them a huge amount of confidence as their Kent 2 campaign resumes next week at home to Askeans.
