The burpees, the grappling, the tackles, the runways, the offloads, the rolls, the handling, the press ups, the powerwave sessions, the running, the circuits - after 6 weeks of hard graft in training Old Gs return to action on Saturday with the first pre-season friendly of the year as they travel to local counterparts Dartfordians to face their 2s.
The squad will be looking to get up to speed with competitive game play in advance of the first Kent 1 fixture in 3 weeks time. It's a chance to put some of the work in training into action, test new combinations, get some valuable match fitness and ensure that the game plan is ready to roll for a hopefully successful league campaign.
They face a club on the up in the form of Dartfordians who over recent years have been on an upward curve, developing young talent and working hard to move into the higher echelons of the london leagues. No doubt, Old Gs will face a youthful energetic side, looking to make their own mark and challenge for a 1st team place for the season ahead.
As to be expecetd for a game in August Old Gs have a few unavailabilites, but still travel with a promising squad for this opening test of pre season. Notable inclusions see first appearances in a Old Gs shirt for new arrivals Sam Baker and Ash Bourne - with old stalwarts Paul Mitcehll, Mike Hodge and Mark Fenton-Smith hanging onto the glory days.
The squad that travels to Darts is a as follows:
