This Sunday sees the long-awaited return of the Old G’s Vets team. On their last outing they were crowned champions and lifted silverware for the first time and are eager to repeat the success of last season. Their campaign gets underway against old foes New Ash Green.

There is always something special about playing your local rivals and this fixture has not disappointed in recent years.

The front row consists of Stu Coleman who has been impressive so far this season for the 2’s as well as having a run out at flanker whilst filling in for another club too. Mike “Elvis” Murray will don his blue and blue socks for the second week running and JJ Keevey returns to action to take up the role of the meat in the front row sandwich. Providing the push from the engine room this week are star-crossed lovers Martin Povey and Tom Hammerton, the duo has shown that they are a force to be reckoned with whenever they both take to the field all season so far with huge crash balls and runs down the wing! Andy Hinde will set up camp on one of the flanks alongside Ben Fenton, neither will give an inch in defence and are both strong ball carriers. Steve Reece will don the 8 shirt in a much preferred position to his last run out of the season at prop for the 2nd XV.

Tasked with controlling this huge pack is Dan D’Cunha, the former 1st team scrum half has a lot of experience and a great head for decision making under pressure. He will be providing service to John Poulson who will be looking to release his back all game with the duo of Mark Fenton-Smith and Mike Hodge outside him in the centre channels waiting to show they both still have it in both attack and defence, defence is more MFS focussed but he and Hodge have a long running understanding here. Giving great options outside will be Steve “Mr T” Thompson and Gavin Bright with Dave Boyer in at full back.

The talent by no means stops there as super sideline of finishers is also available to provide a boost to the team throughout the game and inject their own energy and experience into the side. Sam Fenton, Phill Boyer, Gareth Edwards, Vernon Ras, Lee Wilson, Andy Day, Darrell Conlan, Nick Bratton, Rob Wortham and Nick Stevens.

Kick off is 14:30 at Fleetway Sports Ground. See you all there.
